Berkett Lake Recreation Area in Southeast WA
Dramatic desert hills tower above a small lake dotted with trees and shrubs, nestled in the sagebrush. 40 minutes east of Ellensburg, or 1 hour north of the Tri-Cities.

Bothell ex-golf course 'Wayne'
A city park with the Sammamish Slough running through it. I don't know if it has been named yet but I call it 'Park Wayne'. It has a mile of Sammamish River frontage, a historic apple orchard and farmhouse, and acres of woods.

The Cutting Garden
A garden floral extravaganza (May -September) with great mountain views.

Edmonds Marina
Easy access to a flat boardwalk with excellent views of the Marina, ferries, Olympic mountains (across the water), numerous birds including a regular kingfisher who lives there. Bathrooms in a couple of different locations. Wind shelters available on the pier.

Bridal Veil Falls and Mt. Index overlook/ viewpoint
Great roadside stop with excellent views of the mountains, Bridal Veil falls and Mount Index, on way to Stevens pass or Leavenworth from the Puget Sound area. Picnic tables and coffee, no hiking required. Morning time is best light on these mountain faces. Buy some coffee or something from the lady in the little coffee shop so we can use her tables and toilets.

Washington Pass Overlook
For unrelenting in-your-face beauty you cannot beat this roadside, wheelchair-friendly, quarter-mile jaunt. Towering granite peaks, white granite outcrops, and mix of conifers makes this a soul rejuvenating rest stop like no other and beautiful place to paint.
