Jan announced that she will be giving at least 2 more Plein Air Classes, depending on weather and such. One will be next week at Diesen Estates again. We will be allowed to utilize the Lodge deck areas and maybe do landscape painting. I will post more, as soon as information is available.
Jan's email below:Hello Painters,
We had a good class last week in the green house at Hunter Farms. We painted pumpkins and had plenty of space for social distancing.
Here is the information for the next two weeks of painting.
OCTOBER 29 - DIESEN ESTATE
Nancy Gannon has obtained permission for us to paint again at the Diesen estate. For those of you who did not join us last time, the estate consists of an old hotel/boarding house and acreage that is just north of the Hama Hama Oyster Co. In fact, we could see it when we painted from the beach at Hama Hama.
This time we plan to paint from the decks, where there will be sufficient space for us to socially distance. There are wonderful views of the estuary from the decks, so I am hoping for clear weather. The lesson will be based on the works of Richard Diebenkorn. I have always admired his Ocean Park series. It will be a good lesson on how to focus on sizes and shapes to create a beautiful interpretation of the estuary. I will bring some examples of his work, but his work can also be seen on the Internet.
There are no toilets at the Estate. However, portable toilets are available at the Eldon store, which is just north of the Diesen estate.
Please bring a sack lunch and water for painting,
Please do not arrive before 9:55, The gate to the estate will not be unlocked before then. We will start a little after 10 am, and paint until 3 pm, or as long as you would like.
The directions and the map that Nancy drew for us are at the bottom of this email.
NOVEMEBER 5 - LAKE KOKANEE
Lake Kokanee is a little lake south of Lake Cushman, but is part of the Lake Cushman community. Lake Kokanee has a great cabana/gazebo, which is large enough to accommodate all of us with social distancing. Inside the cabana/gazebo there is a place for a fire and cooking. Mona and I will bring firewood. Please bring something you would like to cook over the fire for lunch and/or a sack lunch.
Lake Cushman does not allow parking at the Gazebo without a permit. However, no one will be there this time of year, so parking should not be a problem. In addition, right next to that parking lot is the parking lot for the boat launch, where anyone can park. It will be easy to off-load gear, and then park at the boat launch.
To get to Lake Kokanee, take Hwy 119 from Hoodsport, Stay on Hwy 119, also known as the N Lake Cushman Road and go up the hill. On your right, you will pass Nina’s, the real estate company, and then a small store, At the store, turn left, which is the Cushman-Potlatch Road. Take this a short distance, and take the first right, which is Lower Lake Road. Stay on Lower Lake Road to the Lake Kokanee Park.
If you need further directions, please let me know.
We will start at 10 am, and paint until 3 pm, or as long as you would like.
DIESEN ESTATE DIRECTIONS:
For those of you coming from the south, go past Hama Hama Oyster Co, and over the two bridges. The driveway to the Diesen house is the first driveway on the right side immediately after the second bridge.
For those coming from the north, the driveway is on the left, and is just before the bridges, once you drive all the way down the hill and the bridges are visible.
We can park in the mowed field just inside the gate, which will be opened for us.
Also, when leaving the Diesen driveway, only turn right and go on up to the Eldon Store to turn around if you want to go south. The Diesen driveway is on a blind corner and it is unsafe to head south from the driveway.

Because these venues are sheltered, class will take place, even if there is rain.
Only horrible weather will cancel the classes, so bring your warm clothes!
