Saw this awesome photo of a great Blue Heron and have to try and paint one. We are fortunate to have these beautiful species in our area. Once again, this is not a Tutorial, but an exercise study, to try out techniques and colors. This will hopefully help me work through future mistakes. Sketched a drawing onto Arches 140# cold press 10 x 14 Block paper, using a mechanical pencil. Taped the edges. Next will mask off high lights, using liquid frisket and a Fine Line applicator.

Here it is after applying the Frisket. Thanks for following along. If this exercise works, will paint it again on larger paper.

Trying out some bloom techniques to add texture. Thanks Joe. I like the effect also. You just add droplets of water to the damp paint to cause a backwash of pigments.

Calling this study finished. I think I over worked it ( as usual ), but a good idea of how to go about the next one. Will also spend more time getting my proportions right and making better preparations.
