Ever since we went to Twanoh State Park, and probably before, I've wanted to paint our indigenous species of the Pacific Brown Pelican, which frequents our areas. This is the reference photo, taken from Pinterest. IT IS FOR REFERENCE ONLY! As you can see from the reference photo, it was probably taken late in the after noon and is slightly back lit with some shadows. This is an aspect, which I will attempt to call attention to and capture the effect. Also, this is Mating colors of the Male Brown Pelican and they diminish later in the season after raising 1 or 2 chicks. They used to raise as many as three, but today are lucky to raise even 1. Very sad. The image only prints on my 8.5 x 11 standard copy paper and I want to enlarge it to fit on Arches 12 x 16, 140 lb. CP paper. So, using a GAF Proportion Scale, it enlarged it to 130 % or 1" = 1 5/16". That means on the copy, I drew 1" squares and on the Watercolor paper, the squares are 1 5/16". This allowed me to keep all the Pelicans proportions in scale. I am experiencing trouble loading my photos right now and it may be due to Proboards updates or something. I hope to have it corrected soon.

I'm looking forward to seeing your rendition of the brown pelican. Yes, those birdwatchers were loud and excited when they spotted them dropping down to the water.

I'm hoping to either have it ready or already started by tomorrows class at Whitney's. Seeing as how this will be a clear evening sky, I'll be using Dragonflies' Goof Proof method of washes.
