Was having lunch with a friend and his Daughter. He asked me, if I'd paint a small 5 x 7 of an African Pygmy Hedgehog, for a gift to his little Grand Daughter. I replied, " Sure. Why not." Now I've seen these cute little creatures, but not knowing a whole lot about them, decided to do a little research first.

Also checked out a few Tutorials on Youtube.
Here's what they look like.

Those sharp little teeth are for latching onto Snails and Slugs, as well as grub worms ( Beetle Larvae). A nice addition to any garden,

Drew the African Pygmy Hedgehog, using a 2B graphite pencil, the lightly lifted with a kneaded eraser. I'll be using Arches Rough, 140# 7 x 10 Block paper, stretched and masking fluid with Daniel Smith's Watercolors, except for Sepia. Just waiting for the masking to fully dry in a few places missed yesterday.

Also sprinkled some salt on the background for texture. Now to let that dry, then remove the salt and masking. Then it's final details.

I contacted Rob, to let him know his painting was finished, so he invited me to lunch at Nina's. I presented the painting to him and Kaleena and Antonio served us wonderful breakfast. Rob was very pleased and promised to send me a photo of his Grand Daughter, when she receives it.
