I was commissioned by a friend to do a Portrait of her pet Dachshund " Winston ". He is quite the character. I reluctantly accepted, not having the confidence to try and do him justice. What the heck. I'll never know unless I try. So, I'm doing to show you all, how I'm going about it and maybe you can learn by my mistakes. Started of, by getting a few photos for reference and then trying to come up with a composition. The way you can upload one image at a time, is to go to the Topic, which you'd like to Post about and click " Create Thread". Then you type in what ever you'd like to say and or choose " Add image to post" located at the top left of the screen. You click that and a window will open, which says " Choose File" click that and choose from your downloads or photos to select one photo. Click accept and watch it upload. Then it will be placed in the box you just typed. Then, down in the lower right of this box, select " Create Thread". The POOF! It's Magic.Don't worry. If you make a mistake, you can always hit the edit button and change it to how you like it. As Joe will attest to, I make a lot of those and been helped many times. SAVE Changes..... click. This is my Pallet set up. These are my Colors Used and Swatches. ( Daniel Smith ) 1. Lunar Earth 2. Burnt Tigers Eye Genuine 3. Sodalite Genuine 4. Italian Burnt Sienna 5. Ultramarine Violet 6. Raw Umber Violet 7. Aussie Red Gold 8. Serpintine Genuine 9. Sepia ( M. Graham ) 10. Lamp Black 11. Titanium White

The next step was to transfer the design onto the Arches 140 lb. Cold Press 12 x 12 sheet of paper and put down a light first wash.

Do you use a number two or four pencil for the light outline? Joe, sometimes the 2B or Mechanical Drafting Pencil ( 03, 05 or.07). Either way, take a Needed Eraser and lightly tap the surface of the paper to remove most of the graphite, so as not to get the paper all covered with smudges. Also lay a blank sheet of paper next o where I'm working to avoid the same. Oils, etc. can really affect how your paint goes down onto the paper.

The eyes are very important. If I mess them up, the whole painting could fail.
